Whooop! 5 Images for the thesis... You could say it's a teaser, sort of.

The retail mall is a central component of contemporary urban capitalist environments as it supports and promotes a thriving economy. These spaces have become an important part of a city’s infrastucture that supports both commerce and social interaction.

Unfortunately, as malls prioritise sales and its shareholders over the consumer, there is a loss of community through a deliberate sensory isolation of the individual. This creates a negative spatial interaction within thresholds, a negative social interaction within the immediate environment and a lack of social and spatial awareness within the community.

This project, located at the Emporium Mall in conjunction with the Melbourne Music Week, aims to create an interaction between these individuals and the site as a direct response to the issues mentioned above.

Because sound is such an important part of our senses, it will be used as a medium to be engaged with in the space. Aside from providing an interesting point of focus for passers by to enter into the establishment, it acts as a magnifying glass exposing the hidden agendas of the corporate capitalist mega-entity.

Also, list of thanks thus far (Y'all gonna get a present for helping me so much -- also continuously being updated).
Kate C, for being the most awesome and helpful contact in the establishment.
Tijana, you're literally like member number 2 for this thesis.
Greta, for being the most wonderful housemate ever.
Chuan, for your help with the techery and arduino programming.
Bob, also for help in all forms of techery and messing around with the rig.
The Squisito boys and girls, for letting me just hang out and have meetings at the cafe.
Meera, Ash, Nas, Alif, Danny, May, on the home-front for keeping me sane through all my ranting/crying/needy-nak-mampos sessions

Brainfart until I can get a piece of paper.

My thesis is about short term collaboration through sound
Question: How can we invoke a sense of short term collaboration amongst strangers?
Overlain topic: Incitement of community and safety

Accidental collaboration?

Bridge Project 1: Combination of The Ursonate and Fluidscapes

Amazing acoustics doesn't have to look ugly. Beautiful sounds can be aesthetically pleasing to everyone ESPECIALLY for the occupants of a space who are creating, interacting or even living in that soundscape. Research has found that "the threshold for possible noise induced risk of myocardial infarction is established at a daytime emission level of 65dB(A)" That means we are at risk from your garden-variety heart attack every single day. Does anyone care?

Now, I'm not implying that just because we all live and work in spaces with a volume average of 65dB(A) we're all going to die from a heart attack, far from it. What I'm putting forward is that we can rectify existing spaces to not emit, or dampen emissions of above 65dB(A) by implementing smart material usage as a means of acoustic intervention.

Too often have we been immersed in negative sound spaces. This can mean anywhere from public waiting areas like tram stops or train stations to even classrooms. Bad sound spaces mean less positive activity and reaction from the people occupying it. Bad sound spaces also mean that people are actively trying to actively block out those negative sounds in any way possible (like headphones) and risk being cut off from the world at large. Hearing is a vital part of the key human senses. When you cut sound from an environment, you effectively stop stimuli that will inform you of your immediate situation, thus putting you at risk.

After half a semester floundering along, wondering what the lecturers wanted exactly for the presentation, I've finally resolved what my thesis is.

What started off as a meandering through happiness, expressions through photography, observations, collations of data through social media means such as Twitter, getting people to sit in the cusp of joy by reading excepts from The Ursonate as well as other various representations of happiness through several projects under the umbrella term of 'Felicity', I've had to stop and look at the body of work and define patterns of progression within each mini project and the most striking factor I've seen is the parallels of happiness or joy through sound.

EPIC TANGENT: This brought me to, amongst other things, a SMALL PODCAST DISCOVERY which I think you should definitely look into.

But...
I'm sitting in my own head instead of actually doing 'bridge' projects that informs this damnable leap in instances. I actually have a few ideas which I should probably run over the course of this week. And I finally finished all the deliverables for the other two classes for this semester which frees me up to do said mini projects.

These new mini projects involves several spatial interventions. I can't obviously just do one so three or four would definitely help in the realisation of these bridges... Or in my case, grappling hooks, towards the realm of sound and acoustics.

I do also need to photography my old projects... That would take... a fair bit of planning around the house. >.> Should have done it during the interim presentation but I completely forgot. Shame on me.

Three projects in 7 days. Let's do this!

Did the panda first and decided to turn it into my cover photo on FB...

And then having it be on the cover. I kind of... ran out of steam doing the background hence the api burny- burny.
The humourous character sheet. I amuse myself greatly.

It's been a while...

also listening to Entire Gojira albums because it kind of makes sense to while doing Materialism posters and shit.

Things left to do in preparation for midterm:

- Photograph the clock and edit it. Will probably photograph it under the table with the help of the table lamp and some dark sheets of paper and have it conform to the other posters.
- Final poster? I think it's the manifesto. My manifesto for Materialism.
- Make the "golden" credit card out of copper. Will have to find the embossing machine in the uni. Ross said it exists somewhere...
- Make an umbrella-plant thingy for Nick's class.
All of the above mainly for Studio because everything else is moving along swimmingly! And not with the fish... and definitely not in concrete shoes -- Because that would be bad.

If you haven't seen,I made a short introductory video for Carlton (the suburb, not the draught)...

It was for one of my Specialisation classes and it works. Could be a little shorter though but it's done so WHO CARES!!!! :D :D :D

Renders S1Y2

This is what I've been slaving away at the uni for.

Aww yeaaahhh the renders are done. :D

NowI can do my Syn and History... History... Oh, God, why?

Here's an example of the infographic I created of the cafe for Syn class and one of the reasons why I didn't sleep last night.

It's a good thing I didn't print out these things because the cikgu was ill and this became not so important.

JIALAT.

Had a conversation with the other cikgu about my end of the year Syn project and it had resulted in a conversation about learning to harness and control lightning, electricity and electrical charges. Which meant I needed super mutant powers. ORRRRRR... I needed to do some more research about taking the idea and extrapolating it

Nikola Tesla and his magic tesla things (Yes, I have tesla envy).
Lightning fields.
Earth Works (With reference to James Turrell).

While doing some research, I quickly segwayed into explodey awesomeness.

So, aside from exploding awesome lightbulb, there was also burny-burny metal things. :|
Why has no one attempted to microwave a leech? I wanted to do that but everyone said no.
